What is the single most important strategy for NEET?

Anchor on NCERT Biology (90% of those 360 marks come straight from the textbook), keep Chemistry stable with daily Inorganic reading, practise Physics numericals weekly, and spend your final 6 months writing and analysing 30–40 full mock tests.

Know the 720-mark paper inside out

NEET UG is a 3-hour-20-minute, 180-question MCQ test with +4 for every correct answer and –1 for every wrong one. Unanswered = 0. That single rule — guessing is punished — should shape your whole training.

The 360/180/120/110 math

A safe NEET is roughly 360 from Biology, 120 from Chemistry, and 110 from Physics — about 590/720 before the final revision pull. Notice biology alone is half the paper. Plan your time that way too.

The three-subject strategy

  1. Biology — read NCERT as a novel, twice, then line-by-line. Draw and label the NCERT diagrams yourself (diagram-based assertion-reason questions appear every year). Reserve one revision reading every 3 weeks.
  2. Chemistry — Physical needs formula practice, Organic needs reaction mapping, and Inorganic must be read straight from NCERT. Allot Inorganic 20 minutes daily as a fixed 'reading slot' — it compounds.
  3. Physics — concept + numerical practice every week. Modern Physics, Semiconductors and Electromagnetic Induction are high-yield and quick. Learn unit conversions cold; most silly errors are unit errors.

Where marks actually leak

Most students lose NEET marks not on hard Physics but on: miss-read Biology stems ('which is NOT'), Inorganic lines they skipped, and calculation slips under time pressure. Fix the leak, not the difficulty.

The one-year NEET plan

  1. Months 1–3: full syllabus coverage — NCERT for all three subjects next to your school syllabus, with the Class 11 portion started first since it is more frequently forgotten.
  2. Months 4–6: first full pass done; start topic-wise mock tests (single chapters) and build your Biology diagram notebook and formula sheets.
  3. Months 7–9: monthly full-length tests (180 questions) + one reference-level problem set per subject for the topics that mock analysis flags.
  4. Months 10–12: weekly full mocks, daily 'weak-line' revision (your tagged Botany readers, the Inorganic chapters you forgot), and zero new material after month 11.

The six-month crash plan

If you are starting mid-year or as a dropper, compress the same map:

  1. Month 1–2: 80% syllabus coverage — Physics and Bio first (they take longest), Chemistry organic reaction map, and a daily Inorganic slot from day one.
  2. Month 3: finish the tail of the syllabus, then move to subject-wise full tests.
  3. Month 4–6: 30+ full mocks, NCERT re-reads for Biology, and intensive weak-chapter fixes for Physics.

Droppers: do not re-read textbooks

A dropper's biggest waste is 're-studying' Class 11 material from scratch. Open the chapter with its mock-test questions, diagnose the gap, and fix only the gap.

Test series like it decides your rank

A test series is not a scoreboard — it is a diagnostic lab. Use it this way:

  1. Write every mock in identical conditions: 3h20m, single sitting, no phone, no mid-test checking of answers.
  2. Same-day analysis: tag every error to a chapter and to a reason (concept gap / formula / calculation / misread stem).
  3. The next study session targets your top-3 leak chapters, not 'everything'.
  4. Track accuracy per section. In the last month, Biology accuracy above 92% and Chemistry above 85% is the target — that alone crosses most cut-offs.

Mistakes that quietly sink NEET scores

  • Ignoring Class 11 Biology through dropper year — it returns every exam.
  • Using flashy Biology notes instead of the NCERT lines.
  • Skipping the last 15 minutes of mock-time training; time pressure is the #1 in-exam killer.
  • Practising only concept questions and never full papers, then discovering 180-question stamina is a muscle you never trained.
  • Comparing mock percentages daily instead of fixing one chapter a week.

Is NCERT enough for NEET Biology?

About 90% of NEET Biology comes from NCERT. Read every line, redraw the diagrams, and use other material only for practice. Physics and Chemistry need numerical practice beyond NCERT.

Can I crack NEET in 6 months?

Yes with intact basics. Cover 80% of the syllabus in the first 3 months with NCERT, then spend the last 3 months on full mocks and targeted weak-chapter revision.

How many marks should I aim for in each section?
