Best Books for JEE Mains

Most of the paper is covered by six books. Really. A smaller shelf you actually finish beats a 20-book wall you half-read.

   NCERT Physics Class 11 & 12 (Part I & II each year) — the concept base; every JEE Main physics topic is derived from it. Read theory twice; solve the examples.

   HC Verma — Concepts of Physics, Vol 1 & 2 — the classic JEE builder. Working its objective + subjective exercises lifts you from school student to JEE solver. Skip nothing in Vol 1 (Class 11 chapters).

   DC Pandey — Physics (Mechanics, Waves & Thermodynamics, Electricity & Magnetism, Optics & Modern) — a cleaner chapterwise practice set once HC Verma is done.

   Irodov — Problems in General Physics — optional. Advanced-level only; use for the top-10% topics, not the whole paper.

   NCERT Chemistry Class 11 & 12 — for Inorganic Chemistry this is the syllabus, word for word. JEE Main asks Inorganic straight from NCERT lines (and its 'all in one' summary tables).

   OP Tandon — Physical Chemistry — the standard numerical practice for mole, atomic structure, thermodynamics and kinetics.

   Morrison & Boyd + NCERT for Organic — organic at JEE Main depth needs NCERT reaction maps first; M&B adds the thoroughness boards don't give.

   JD Lee — Concise Inorganic Chemistry — only as a reference for anything NCERT doesn't explain, never as a replacement.

   NCERT Maths Class 11 & 12 — covers all 3 sections' theory and examples. Board-level, but the search space of JEE Main maths ideas.

   RD Sharma 11 & 12 — the workhorse for Algebra, Trigonometry and most chapters. Volume of questions builds stamina.

   Cengage Maths series (Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Calculus by G. Tewani) — the step up for JEE-difficulty Calculus and Coordinate. Buy the parts you struggle with, not the whole set.

   TMH / Arihant JEE Main chapterwise PYQ — mandatory for the last 4–6 months; teaches you exactly what the exam repeats.

   Pass 1 (Class 11): NCERT chapter + all examples solved fully + HC Verma/RD Sharma chapter. One subject-stream at a time.

   Pass 2 (Class 12): same pattern, and start topic-wise tests as each Class 12 chapter finishes.
3. 3
   Pass 3 (final 6 months): only PYQs, mock tests and your marked-wrong questions from the references. No new books.

• Multiple books for the same subject at the same level — pick one per subject and finish it.
• 'Last-minute crash' books bought in March — the final months belong to PYQs and mocks, not new stacks.
• Advanced-only sets (Irodov-level) before the JEE Main base is done.
• Any book you open once and set aside — sell it; shelf guilt wastes study time.
