Which NCERT books do I need for JEE Mains?
Six: NCERT Physics Class 11 and 12 (Part I & II of each), NCERT Chemistry Class 11 and 12 (Part I & II of each), and NCERT Maths Class 11 and 12. Read and solve them three times across your preparation — this is where JEE Main Physics basics and nearly all Inorganic Chemistry come from.
What JEE Main actually draws from NCERT
The myth is that NCERT is 'too easy for JEE'. The reality is different: JEE Main is built on the NCERT syllabus, and a large fraction of its Physics theory and Chemistry (especially Inorganic) questions are NCERT lines, reworded or taken directly. Boards train you to memorise; JEE Main trains you to recognise the NCERT concept inside a twisted problem.

The three-pass NCERT method
- 1Pass 1 — understand (Class 11 year): read the theory chapter by chapter as your school covers it, workbook-style.
- 2Pass 2 — solve (Class 12 year): solve every solved example and every exercise, in full, on paper. Re-solve fumbled questions 10 days later.
- 3Pass 3 — revise (final 6 months): re-read the summary blocks and your 'points to remember' notebook line by line, alongside PYQs.
Why examples, not just exercises
When NCERT is not enough
- Physics numerical depth: HC Verma or a chapterwise PYQ book after NCERT.
- Chemistry numerical volume: OP Tandon for Physical.
- Maths problem variety: RD Sharma (all chapters) + Cengage for Calculus/Coordinate.
- Speed under the +4/–1 marking: 25–35 full mocks in the last 6 months.

Are NCERT books enough for JEE Main?
They are the foundation, not the whole strategy. Most of the syllabus — especially Inorganic Chemistry and Physics theory — is NCERT; pair them with one reference per subject and a PYQ book.
Which NCERT subjects matter most for JEE Main?
Chemistry most (Inorganic is read from the book), Physics for its concept base, and Maths through its example bank. All six books carry weight.
Should I read Class 11 NCERT books in Class 12?
Yes. Roughly half of Physics and much of Maths/Chemistry weightage is Class 11 content, and JEE Main repeats it every session.
How many times should I read NCERT for JEE Main?

Is the new 2025–26 NCERT edition different?
